Open House a Great Success

It was a wonderful turn out of polymer clay fans, some who were just getting to know the possibilities  that are contained in those 2oz packages of colored clay.

With what seems like magic, a little mixing and cutting and anyone can create works that are big or small, jewelry or wall pieces, even sculpture that is serious or whimsical.

I am lucky to be apart of this quickly growing community of polymer artists. I’m doubly fortunate to have very good friends  join me in my studio. I’ve hosted many sterling polymer instructors over the last few years. Doreen Kassel will be here in a few weeks teaching student how to create her beautiful pods and flowers. Plus a day of her darling jiggly dolls. There are a few opening in the doll class if you are interested.

This last weekend was just pure fun. Laurie Prophater, Julie Eakes, Meisha Barbee and Dayle Doroshow gathered at my studio for 4 days of creating and sharing.

On Saturday I hosted an open house featuring their work. People were fascinated to watch as these artist worked magic with clay.

Lois Lynn came all the way from Ocala to visit with us.
Here she is with Julie.
Dayle Speaks with a polymer clayer about her work.

Once again I want to thank these talented women for coming from around the country to share with me and my community. We are richer for it.

Thanks to the Highlands Sun for a very nice article today.

Alice Stroppel Cane Mapping

If you love mosaics and polymer clay, if you love the look of complex canes but simply don’t want to create a giant complex cane, if you love one of a kind pieces, and if you have tons of left over canes, this is the class for you!

This is an intermediate class and having some skinner blended canes in your stash will make your designs pop.

You’ll learn the basics by mapping a fish portrait like the one pictured above (or bring your own design) . Plus I’ll demo my Stroppel canes and we’ll have fun incorporating some slices into our designs.

I use several older canes but make many new canes as needed for each piece. So be sure to bring some of your older canes and supplies to make new ones.

I always use Skinner blends in my canes. In my opinion, it’s what makes a piece pop. I’ll be asking you to do a bit of homework ahead of time so we won’t be spending time in class making skinner blends. If you’ve taken my cane class, then you’ll be ready for this workshop or the one below.  Homework video will be sent when deposit is received.

vessel - Marie Segal

Classic interpretation of modern pieces and mediums on
art today.   You’ll learn a  collection of ways to make old style or iconic fabrication with a modern twist.

Marie has this to say about Her Iconic Fabrication Workshop.

“Iconic Fabrication is my heart!

I have always loved ancient design and fabrication but this class has a modern twist to it.

Construction, surface treatments, and modern materials stand the test of time. Designs were meant to stand for ever years ago and most pieces of art had meaning or were to document an event, loss, or love!

I love the reverence of our past history and like to celebrate that in my own time today!

We will make a vessel or a switch plate for your house.”

Thank you all for being a part of Studio 215.

Starting the New Year Right

Alice Stroppel beginner Workshop 1 9 2016

The first workshop of the year! New caners were enthusiastic for sure in this beginning cane workshop. Maggie Mora, Pauline Somoza, Esther Manso, are sisters and they met in Sebring for a mini reunion and to take my workshop. How fun is that? Marilyn Wright is  a ceramic artist and is excited about the possibilities of polymer.

Tons of laughter in this class, we all went away smiling.

The next beginner workshop will be on Jan 30th.

Alice Stroppel build your cane inventory 1-2016

Toni Carroll, Barbara Snapp, Kathi Keck, Nancy Simmons, Linda Boyd, and Judy Fala and Marilyn Wright created fun and funky canes this weekend in a Build your cane inventory workshop held on Jan. 16. Marilyn had to leave early and I’m sorry I didn’t get her in the photo.

Next step would be to take the cane mapping workshop and get ready to let your work explode.

Only three weeks until Marie Segal arrives to teach 2 one day workshops., Find out more here.

Exciting New Adventure – Online Workshops

Alice Stroppel online workshops

This weekend, my students in my Build Your Cane Inventory Workshop will be the first ones, you might say my testers, for my new video system.

I have been working all day to set up this monitor  so I can stream  online Workshops and allow my in Studio student a great view of what I demoing in class.

Soon I’ll be offering small online Workshops and possibly ongoing classes to everyone. I’m going to need a few more “testers” for my first coupled of tries the size of the class will be limited to only 3 or 4 people, so the bonus will be extra attention. You’ll be helping me and I hope having some fun at the same time.  Sign up for my newsletter to find out more. I’ll be sending information our next week.

I am excited to have this set up in time for Marie Segal’s Workshops and for her Trunk Show on the Friday night before. More info on that to come as well.
